FEV strengthens 5G Automotive Association with smart vehicle competences

FEV believes 5G technology is a key technology for automated driving

International development service provider FEV, headquartered in Aachen, is a new member of the globally operating 5G Automotive Association (5GAA). The network of leading OEMs, suppliers and network providers has dedicated its work to jointly addressing society’s connected mobility and road safety needs.

Dino Flore, director general of the 5GAA, states: „Given FEV’s long standing expertise as engineering service provider in the automotive industry and their active role in pushing connectivity technology, services for autonomous driving and future mobility services, we expect the company to be a major contributor to support the collaboration and alignment of the automotive and telecom worlds, as well as getting leading 5G technology onto the road.”

For many years, FEV has been working as a development partner for almost all OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, and is increasingly supporting them in the fields of connectivity, telematics and automated driving.

As a result, earlier this year FEV established a global Center of Excellence (CoE) “Smart Vehicle”. Under the leadership of Stephan Tarnutzer, the CoE is focusing on the interdisciplinary development tasks of connectivity and the automation of future vehicle development.

“Being in advanced automotive engineering for nearly 40 years already, we are excited to be part of developing the next generation of smart mobility enabled by 5G technology, jointly with leading global companies”, explained Dr. Thomas Hülshorst, who is proud to be a member of the 5GAA group. Dr. Dirk Macke, FEV Specialist Coordinator for development and integration of the 5G technology adds: “We believe that the 5G technology will play a major role in the realization of automated driving.”
